Tunisia to resume flights to Libya "very soon"

TRIPOLI, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Foreign Minister Khamis Al-Jahnawi confirmed Monday that Tunisia will resume flights to Libya "very soon."

Jahnawi made his remarks during a meeting with the Libyan UN-backed Prime Minister, Fayez Serraj, in the Libyan capital Tripoli, where the two officials discussed means to facilitate bilateral trade and joint border management, according to a statement by the Prime Minister's Information Office.

"The Tunisian minister reiterated his country's support for the Government of National Accord, stressing Tunisia's desire to restore the momentum of economic relations and activate the legal frameworks for reciprocal trade transactions between the two countries," the statement said.

"Jahnawi stressed that the Tunisian Airline will very soon resume operation in Libya," the statement added.

Most foreign airlines, including Tunisian Airline, suspended flights to Libya due to the deteriorated security situation in the country since 2014.

A technical team of the Tunisian Civil Aviation Authority has been carrying out intensive visits to Libya since the beginning of this year to review the technical and security conditions of the Libyan airports, in preparation for resuming flights.
