YANGON, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A total of 176 people were trafficked in Myanmar in the first half of this year in connection with 107 related cases, the official Global New Light of Myanmar quoted anti-human trafficking police as reporting on Tuesday.

Among the victims, over 100 are women. The state of Shan topped the number of cases, followed by Yangon and Mandalay regions.

The cases were related to forced marriage, forced prostitution and labor exploitation.

Myanmar's parliament is expected to approve the Anti-trafficking in Persons Revised Law this year, based on that enacted in September 2005.

According to the 2005 Anti-Trafficking in Person Law, people who traffic women and children are to be given a minimum of 10-year imprisonment or maximum of life imprisonment.
