JAKARTA, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The toll from the multiple earthquakes and an ensuing tsunami in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi Province was put at 2,090, while international assistance flowed in, an official said on Friday.

The jolts and the tsunami seriously injured a total of 10,679 people in Palu, the provincial capital and the districts of Donggala, Sigi and Parigi Mountong on Sept. 28, spokesman of the national disaster management agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.

The catastrophes forced more than 87,000 people to flee home and take shelter, he said.

Emergency relief aids from food to medicine assisted by over a dozen nations flew into the catastrophe-affected areas, Sutopo told Xinhua in a text message.

To pave way for the emergency relief measures, the provincial administration has extended the emergency status to Oct. 26, he added.

Powerful and shallow earthquakes of 6.0, 7.4 and 6.1 magnitude and an ensuing tsunami devastated the province on Sept. 28 with the hardest-rattled area in Palu city and Donggala district.

The tsunami hit with a height of 0.5 to three meters, devastating coastal areas near Talisa beach in Palu city and Donggala district, the meteorology and geophysics agency said.
