PARIS, July 17 (Xinhua) -- French shares edged up on Tuesday with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.24 percent, or 13.11 points, to close at 5,422.54 points.

A total of 25 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.

Steel manufacturing corporation ArcelorMittal advanced 2.45 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Belgian chemical company Solvay rose 1.78 percent and French international luxury group Kering gained 1.45 percent.

French telecommunication group Orange went down by 2.54 percent, the top loser of the blue chips. Public relations company Publicis Groupe edged down 2.29 percent and French telecom giant Bouygues lost 1.51 percent. Enditem
