PARIS, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Four French nationals were wounded in a powerful eathquake that struck Indonesia's resort island of Lombok and killed at least 91 people, the French foreign ministry announced on Monday.

"At this stage, four French nationals have been reported injured and are being followed by our embassy," the ministry said.

A crisis unit was opened in Paris in order "to monitor the situation at the real time," it added.

"Our embassy in Jakarta is in constant contact with local authorities who rescue and evacuate foreign nationals and tourists. Consular agents were dispatched to Lombok airport to assist French nationals," it said.

The ministry also called on French visitors to strictly respect Indonesian authorties' protection instruction and departure recommendation.

On Sunday, a 7.0-magnitude quake struck the north of Indonesia's resort island of Lombok, killing at least 91 people and triggered a tsunami warning before being lifted.

Indonesia sees frequent quakes as it sits on a vulnerable quake-prone zone of "the Pacific Ring of Fire."

In 2004, a 9.2-magnitude earthquake in the Indian Ocean off the west coast of northern Sumatra triggered a tsunami that killed 226,000 people in 13 countries, including more than 120,000 in Indonesia.
