SEOUL, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha had a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo Tuesday over situations on the Korean Peninsula, Seoul's foreign ministry said.

Kang exchanged opinions on the phone earlier in the day with Pompeo over the peninsula situations, including the recent inter-Korean relations, the ministry said in a press release.

The top South Korean diplomat explained to Pompeo about the result of high-level inter-Korean talks, which were held Monday at the border village of Panmunjom.

After the talks, the two Koreas agreed to hold the third summit between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), in Pyongyang before the end of next month.

Moon and Kim met for the first time on April 27, agreeing to meet in Pyongyang this fall. The second Moon-Kim summit was held on May 26.

The two Moon-Kim summits led to the first-ever DPRK-U.S. summit between Kim and U.S. President Donald Trump in Singapore on June 12.

During the phone conversation, Kang and Pompeo agreed to maintain close cooperation denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula and building a permanent peace.
