BEIJING, May 17 (Xinhua) -- A total of 120 selected young people from China's rural areas have received training on rural vitalization at a Tsinghua University workshop under the "Leader Plan" co-sponsored by the China Charity Alliance.

They received a five-month online training session initiated in October 2018, involving around 2,600 outstanding rural young people mostly aged below 45, and were offered courses on rural tourism, community building, financial policies and e-commerce, before qualifying for a five-day Tsinghua workshop on improved thinking, technological innovation, design and research and development, brand marketing and field visits.

The workshop concluded Friday in Tsinghua University with the participants vowing to practice what they have learnt and help more farmers increase incomes.

Ma Xiaomei is a university teacher-turned village official from Ningxia, northwest China. "We want to build a rural and pastoral complex for our village, but have no idea about the planning. After the training, I got an idea to develop internet plus rural travel," she said.

The "Leader Plan" aims to train a further 10,000 rural young people in 2019, helping more youth with rural vitalization ambitions access quality education and opportunities through entrepreneurship, according to sponsors of the program.
